Official Community Mailing Lists

There are several official mailing lists for Nagios which are described below. When sending a question, make sure you direct it to the appropriate list.

nagios-announce:

This is a low volume, moderated list used for sending out announcements regarding new versions of Nagios, plugins, addons, etc. Users are strongly advised to subscribe to this list, as any security-related or other "must have" patches will be announced here first.

nagios-users:

This is intended to be a general purpose list for users of Nagios. If you're having problems installing Nagios or getting things running, search the archive for possible solutions. If you can't find what you're looking for, post the problem description and someone may be able to help you out. The volume of messages on this list tends to be in the range of about 30 messages per day.

nagios-project:

This is intended to be a general, non-technical list for discussing things related to the general management and operation of, and guidelines for, the Nagios Project. Do not post patches, development ideas, or ask for technical assistance on this list - use other, more appropriate lists for those purposes.

nagiosplug-help:

This list is intended to be a resource for anyone who is having problems with the plugins.

nagios-devel:

This is a list for people with an interest in working on Nagios addons, event handlers, etc. It is also a place where you can report problems with the "core" code and suggest ideas for future enhancements.

nagiosplug-devel:

This list is targeted at people who are working on new plugins and/or improving existing ones.

nagios-checkins:

This is a moderated (no posting by users) mailing list containing information about Nagios CVS commits/checkins for the core program and CGIs. If you don't have any interest in tracking development of the core code, you won't care about this list...

nagiosplug-checkins:

This is a moderated (no posting by users) mailing list containing information about CVS commits/checkins for the Nagios Plugins. If you don't have any interest in tracking development of the core code, you won't care about this list...

nagios-drama:

This list is intended for all BWAC (Bitching, Whining, And Complaining) posts that have nothing to do with technical assistance with Nagios or its development. It is also a catch-all list for unsupported, hysteric assumptions that fall into the "jump to conclusions" category. If your post matches the BWAC criteria, please post your message here so it doesn't waste the valuable time of people who have better things to do.
